The Federal Government has donated assorted grains to Taraba Government for distribution to vulnerable citizens in the state.



Hajia Zubaida Umar, Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) while making the donation on Tuesday in Jalingo said that the was to cushion the effect of high cost of food in the country.

Represented by Mallam Yakubu Sulaiman, Zonal Director of NEMA I the North East, Umar said that the gesture was on the fulfilment of President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to reduce the impact of the current economic down-turn being experienced in the country which is inline with the’Renewed Hope Agenda.



The director general explained that the release of food commodities from the National Strategic Reserve under the custody of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.

She said that the assorted food commodities being donated to Taraba were; 7,040 50kg bags of Maize, 2,880 50kg bags of millet and 10,570 50kg bags of sorghum.



She advised the Taraba government to identify the deserving beneficiaries through the constituted committees in each of the local government areas.

Umar also issued the directive of the Mr President that 20 per cent of the food commodities and 3 per cent in each of the local government areas be given to the religious organisations and Boarding schools respectively.

In his remark, Gov. Agbu Kefas of Taraba thanked the federal government for food intervention.

Kefas expressed his commitment for fair distribution of the food commodities ensuring it reached to the targeted beneficiaries.

He said that the gesture would go along way in ameliorating the food crisis faced in the state. (NAN)
