NEMA CONDUCTS SENSITIZATION ON WASTE MANAGEMENT AND FLOOD PREPAREDNESS IN SCHOOLS

In line with NEMA’s initiative to ensure a more inclusive flood Preparedness program nationwide, NEMA Sokoto Operations Office visited students of Secondary Schools in Sokoto State to enlighten them of proper waste management and the danger of indiscriminate dumping of refuse, especially as it touches flood.

The office which has a very active NYSC Emergency Management Vanguards, organized the sensitization in conjunction with the NEMA/NYSC EMVs. The agency delivered lectures to the students on practice of proper waste disposal and the dangers of indiscriminate dumping of refuse in Culverts and water ways.

The sensitization/awareness creation took place in Umaru Ali Shinkafi Polytechnic Staff School, Sokoto and Aliyu Magatakarda Wammako Model Primary and Junior Secondary Schools, Sokoto. The students were also taught safety tips in Flood.

The students demonstrated their acceptance of the lectures by asking good questions to clarify areas they do not understand.

The school management thanked the NEMA officials and the NEMA CDS for the initiative and promised to put all they have learnt into practice.

At the end of the session, some of the students that showed commitment during the program were awarded with gifts from the EMVs.
