DG NEMA Commends Timely Release of 2026 SCP, Reaffirms Shared Commitment to Proactive Disaster Management

The Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Zubaida Umar, has commended the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) for the timely release of the 2026 Seasonal Climate Prediction (SCP), describing it as a vital tool for strengthening Nigeria’s disaster risk reduction and climate resilience efforts.

Speaking at the public presentation of the 2026 SCP in Abuja, the Director-General stated that NEMA would immediately leverage the forecast to activate early flood preparedness and other climate risk management measures across the country.

She disclosed that the Agency would soon convene a technical meeting of experts to analyse the predictions and produce detailed disaster risk implications, alongside actionable guidance for flood early preparedness and mitigation measures nationwide.

The Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, described meteorological and climate services as essential to national safety and development, noting that the 2026 SCP provides scientifically robust guidance for planning and risk management across key sectors.

Also speaking, the Director-General of NiMet, Professor Charles Anosike, reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to providing timely, accurate, and reliable climate information to support disaster preparedness, and socio-economic development.
