National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Yola Operations Office conducted a workshop in Yola, Adamawa State, focusing on proper waste management and flood mitigation. Led by Mr. Ladan Ayuba, the workshop aimed to educate and mobilize residents on environmental protection and flood preparedness as the rainy season approaches. Mr. Ayuba stressed the importance of environmentally responsible practices and urged the community to adopt sustainable methods for managing waste and preparing for potential floods.

Haj Safiya Abubakar from the Federal Ministry of Environment highlighted the government’s proactive measures against flooding and emphasized individual responsibility in maintaining public hygiene. She urged residents to avoid dumping waste in drainage systems to prevent blockages and flooding, especially in flood-prone areas.

Philip Ngamariju, from the Nigeria Hydrological Service Agency, emphasized the importance of collective action in environmental protection. Represented by Ismail Abubakar, he reiterated that safeguarding the environment is a shared responsibility that requires community participation.

Overall, the workshop aimed to enhance community engagement and preparedness by equipping residents with the necessary knowledge and tools to address waste management and flood-related challenges effectively.
