The Newly posted General Officer Commanding the 3rd Division of the Nigeria Army, Maj. General A. B. Ibrahim, and the Commander, Operation Safe Haven, today 31st January, 2023; paid a courtesy visit to the North Central Zonal Office of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Jos, Plateau State.
Speaking during the visit, Maj. General A. B. Ibrahim stated that the aim of the visit was to familiarise himself with the Zonal Office and to further strengthen the existing tie between the NEMA and the Nigerian Army.
Responding to the GOC, the Zonal Coordinator, Mr Eugene Nyelong, informed the General that as an agency of the Federal Government, the NEMA is saddled with the role of coordinating disasters in Nigeria. He also appreciated the GOC for the visit and noted that the GOC is the first to officially pay a courtesy visit to the Zonal Office since its establishment in 2006.
The Zonal Coordinator also noted that, as a critical stakeholder in disaster management in the country, the Nigeria Army has always played a key role during assessment and distribution of relief materials in volatile areas; and has always been instrumental in providing general security of lives and properties. He assured the GOC of the Agency’s continued collaboration with the Nigeria Army.
Highlights of the visit was the exchange of plagues (a gift of compliment) by both the Coordinator of the Zone and the GOC; after which there was the demonstration of the use of extrication equipments by the Search and Rescue Department of the Zone.
