The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) handed over 1,287 metric tons of maize and 132 metric tons of garri to the Oyo State Government for distribution to vulnerable persons. This is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s initiative to mitigate the economic downturn by releasing 42,000 metric tons of assorted grains from the National Strategic Reserve. The handover took place on July 1, 2024, at the Oyo State Government Secretariat in Ibadan. The Deputy Governor, Adeleke Adebayo Lawal, received the items and pledged to follow the distribution guidelines. The event was attended by various stakeholders, including security agencies, local government officials, traditional leaders, and the media.
