On September 6th, 2023, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in the North Central Zone, Jos Plateau state, conducted a training session for 44 final year medical students (600Level) at the University of Jos Teaching Hospital (JUTH). The focus of the training was disaster risk management, emphasizing the importance of proactive involvement in disaster management for these future medical professionals. Moses Okpe, the team lead and head of Disaster Risk Reduction at NEMA, provided an overview of NEMA’s role and the disaster management cycle. The students were also introduced to the mobile intensive care unit (MICU) during the session. This training will be conducted in phases and will include other levels of medical students in the future.
