As part of preparation to prevent mitigate the occurrence of fire disasters in Ekiti State and as well as mitigate the impact of fire disaster if they eventually occur, the NEMA Ekiti Operations Office organized a stakeholder meeting on Wednesday 6th December 2023.
The aim of the meeting is to monitor the state of preparedness of all relevant stakeholders in Disaster Management in Ekiti State.
The meeting was declared opened by the Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Chief Mrs Monisade Afuye who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Deputy Governor Ekiti State, Mr Bayo Opeyemi
In his opening speech, the Director General of NEMA, MUSTAPHA HABIB AHMED who was represented by the Ekiti Head of Operations, Mr Kadiri Olanrewaju stated that the meeting became necessary in order to monitor the state of preparedness of all Stakeholders in Disaster Management in Ekiti State. He highlighted that fire has been a prevalent disaster associated with the dey seasons. He noted that the Market Women Association, Farmer’s Association and NURTW needs to sensitize their members on best practices to curtail the outbreak of fire disasters in Ekiti State.
The PS SEMA, MR JIDE BORODE noted that the state government has approved for sensitization of the people of Ekiti State and shortly the program will kick start and all the local markets and other public places would be visited shortly and this would be done in collaboration with NEMA.
Highlight of the meeting was the contribution of all Stakeholders present at the meeting. It was observed that all Agencies present at the meeting had embarked on massive sensitization programs which is aimed at enlightening the general public on preventive measures against fire.
