As part of its early preparations for the predicted 2025 seasonal climate conditions, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) is strengthening its partnership with the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to enhance disaster response capabilities.
In the renewed commitment to collaboration, NEMA’s Director of Planning, Research and Forecasting, Dr. Onimode Abdullahi Bandele, represented the Director General Mrs Zubaida Umar in leading a team from the Agency on a working visit to the Nigerian Air Force Headquarters in Abuja. The team also included the Director of Search and Rescue, Air Commodore A.K. Oyong.
During the visit, the NEMA team engaged in discussions with the NAF Director of Operations, Air Vice Marshal A.Y. Abdullahi. Key areas of focus included the prepositioning of air assets to support search and rescue operations, the deployment of Disaster Response Units (DRUs) during emergencies, and the use of aerial surveillance technology for disaster monitoring and assessment.
The NAF Director of Operation assured commitment of the Service to support NEMA, adding that he will brief the Chief of Air Staff about it.
By leveraging the Nigerian Air Force’s resources and expertise, NEMA is taking a proactive step toward mitigating the impact of climate-induced disasters, ensuring a more resilient and prepared emergency response system in 2025.
