
The Ondo State Government has expressed appreciation to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for its timely response to disaster incidents in the state. It also called for closer collaboration between the Agency and the State Government to ensure efficient management of climate-induced hazards predicted to occur this year.
The Deputy Governor of the State, Mr. Olayide Owolabi Adelami, made the remarks during a visit to NEMA headquarters in Abuja today. He commended the unwavering commitment of the Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, to effective disaster management across the country.
Mr. Adelami also appealed to NEMA to assist communities in the state affected by coastal erosion and ocean surges.
While acknowledging that some disasters are inevitable, the Deputy Governor emphasized that those predicted through technological advancements should be mitigated through early action by all relevant stakeholders to safeguard lives and property.
In her response, the Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to working with stakeholders for effective disaster management nationwide.
She noted that NEMA has already begun early preparations to address climate-related hazards in 2025 and emphasized the need for strong collaboration, particularly of State and Local Governments, to ensure proactive measures are taken.
The Director General also assured the readiness of NEMA to collaborate with the Ondo State Government, particularly through the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) in the management of disasters in the state.
