The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Lagos Operations Office (LOO), promptly responded to a distress call regarding a gas cylinder explosion that triggered a fire emergency at No. 12 Amusu Street, Ijora Badia, within the Apapa Iganmu Local Council Development Area (LCDA).
Upon arrival, responders discovered that a 25-kilogram gas cylinder had leaked inside a small retail shop containing five other similar-sized cylinders. The accumulation of gas in the enclosed space, exacerbated by the intense heat in the area, led to a powerful explosion followed by a fire outbreak.
The incident left 20 individuals injured—14 with severe burns and 6 with minor burns. All victims were quickly transported to nearby hospitals for urgent medical care.
In collaboration with the Apapa Iganmu LCDA team, the LOO carried out a comprehensive on-site assessment to determine the extent of the damage and ensure public safety. The team also visited all the hospitals where the victims were admitted to check on their conditions and offer necessary support.
