NEMA Responds to Flood Devastation in Malumfashi, Katsina State

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has responded to the flood that devastated some communities in about ten local government areas of Katsina State with delivery of relief supports for persons that were affected by the disaster.
Director General of NEMA Alhaji Muhammad Sani Sidi on Monday led a team of the Agency in the delivery of the relief supports in Daura as well as joined the State Governor Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari to inspect some areas affected by the flood in Malumfashi town.
Delivering the items, the DG NEMA sympathized with those affected and said the gesture was aimed at cushioning the impacts of the disaster.
Speaking on the gesture by NEMA, Governor Aminu Bello Masari appreciated the Agency for the swift response and promised that the state government would also provide its support to help the affected persons. He also said that the government would soon construct more drainages within Malumfashi to minimize the annual occurrences of flood in the areas.
At the flag of the relief distribution in Daura, the Senator representing the area at the National Assembly Engr Mustapha Bukar also commended NEMA for coming to the rescue of the persons affected by the flood. However, he emphasized the need for strict adherence to preventive measures such as avoidance of building in floodplains and taking seriously early warning alerts from relevant agencies.
It would recall that recent flood in Daura and its environ had occurred after a heavy down pour affecting at least 509 persons, 219 houses as well as causing destruction to many property and even displacing many families. Among the local government areas are Daura, Baure, Ingawa, Charanchi, Zango, Dandume, Kusada, Mai-aduwa and Malumfashi.
