NEMA North West zone staff joined the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) for a one-day sensitization campaign on waterways safety, focusing on the theme “No Life Jacket No Boat Ride.” The event, held in Kaduna, aimed to educate waterways users on safety measures, particularly the importance of using life jackets, avoiding overloading, and refraining from night sailing. NIWA Kaduna Area Manager, Engr. Isah Aliyu, highlighted the dangers of transporting heavy loads, animals, and motorcycles alongside passengers, which have previously led to fatal accidents. NEMA NW Zonal Coordinator, Abbani Imam Garki, stressed the need for strict adherence to safety guidelines to prevent boat mishaps. The Village Head of Rafin Guza, Alhaji Adamu Kabiru, requested support from NIWA in providing life jackets and other essential materials for waterways users.
