ASSESSMENT OF FLOOD SITUATION IN BIRNIN-KEBBI

Following the heavy rainfall of Monday, 18th August 2025, serious flooding has affected about nine (9) communities in Birnin-Kebbi, the capital of Kebbi State.

A joint assessment exercise was conducted on Tuesday, 19th August 2025, by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Kebbi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).

Findings from the assessment indicate that a significant number of persons have been affected by the disaster. While some houses were submerged by floodwaters, several others collapsed completely.

As a result, a significant number of residents have been displaced. The displaced persons are currently seeking temporary shelter with relatives, friends, and members of the host communities who have shown goodwill and support in the aftermath of the disaster.
