NEMA organize a multi-agency event to downscale the 2024 Flood Outlook and mitigation strategies to grassroots levels in Sokoto State. The one-day event, held at the Sultan Maccido Institute of Islamic Studies, included participants from various local government areas, farmers, agricultural workers, local officials, and traditional leaders. Key stakeholders present were the Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency, Nigeria Army, NSCDC, FRSC, Red Cross, and Doctors Without Borders.
NEMA and NiMET made presentations on the 2024 Seasonal Climate Prediction, Crop Weather Calendar, Livestock Comfortability Index, and risk reduction strategies for Sokoto State. The presentations were delivered in English by Dapo Akingbade and in Hausa by Tukur Abubakar. The event encouraged participant interaction and brainstorming on disaster prevention.
After the event, the NEMA delegation met with the Secretary to the Sokoto State Government, who expressed gratitude for the collaboration and looked forward to continued partnership with NEMA.
