The Director General National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Mustapha Habib Ahmed received a team from the World Food Programme (WFP), who were at the Agency to discuss about strengthening of synergy towards delivery of humanitarian supports to displaced persons in Nigeria and Cameroun.
The WFP team comprised of the Nigeria’s Country Director Mr David Stevenson and the Cameroun based WFP Country Director Ms Wanja Kaaria as well as some staff from both the Nigeria and Camounian office. In their separate remarks, the two WFP Country Directors said humanitarian situation in Nigeria and Cameroun were interwoven given the proximity and inter-border movements by the IDPs. They said the national offices of WFP in Nigeria and Cameroun have decided to combine efforts as well as build synergy with relevant humanitarian agencies such as NEMA towards scaling up supports to the IDPs.
Responding, the DG NEMA appreciated the WFP team for the visit and assured commitment of the Agency work with relevant organizations, including the WFP in providing supports to Nigerians in distressed.
He said “NEMA is doing a lot in respect to food security during emergencies including the ongoing Special National Emergency livelihood Emergency Intervention (SNELEI) project which is meant to assist farmers who lost their farm lands and domestic animals during the 2022 flood. About 578,211 household of farmers will benefit from the intervention.
He appreciated the “Country Directors of both Nigeria and Cameroon and their teams for having time to visit NEMA because of your support and commitment toward effective and efficient disaster management in Nigerian and neighboring countries.”
