NEMA-NCZ SENSITIZES KYENG COMMUNITY OF JOS SOUTH LGA ON FLOOD AND WASTE MANAGEMENT

On September 9th, 2023, the North Central Zone of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) conducted a flood and waste management awareness campaign in the Kyeng community, located in the Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State. Prior to this, NEMA had engaged in an advocacy visit to the community, and an agreement was reached to educate the majority of community members on the recurring problems of flooding and improper waste disposal.

NEMA’s team received a warm welcome from the community members, who highlighted their various challenges related to floods and waste management. These challenges included the absence of proper water drainage systems, the disposal of waste in drainage areas, the lack of waste bins, and more.

Mr. Moses Okpe took the opportunity to emphasize the importance of collective responsibility in addressing these issues. He also provided valuable tips, such as the three Rs of waste management (reduce, reuse, and recycle), promoting tree planting, and the development of a Community emergency response plan.

The community leadership expressed their gratitude to NEMA and requested that the sensitization efforts be extended to neighboring communities that are also affected by these issues.
