NEMA ORGANIZES A ONE- DAY WORKSHOP ON BASIC FIRST AID AND CASUALLY HANDLING.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) North Central Zonal office Jos today organized a One-day workshop on Basic First Aid and Casualty Handling during Road trafic Emergency. Declaring the workshop open, the Zonal Coordinator Mr Eugene Nyelong said Disaster Management requires active participation of multiple players particularly those directly involved in response activities to save lives and properties. The coordinator said

It was important to remind the participants of the need to be cautious in handling Road Traffic Emergency, and also to draw their attention to the high rate of Road accident especially this Ember month which is why the Agency deem it fit to organize the workshop to our stakeholders on “Basic First Aid and Casualty handling during Road Traffic Emergency” to keep us abreast with proper ways to respond in cases of accidents and emergencies during this period. He added that accidents and medical emergencies can happen anywhere at any time, and effective First Aid can make the difference between life and death. Not only will you have basic first aid knowledge and skills, you’ll receive practical examples in the course of this training.

He appreciated all participants and reminded them on the need to be ambassadors of Disaster Management and also implore them to by extension sensitize members of your different associations and organizations by stepping down the trainings and information they shall acquire from this workshop. Eugene stressed that is our hope and aspiration that we build a disaster resilient people and society.

He implored all the participants to actively participate and contribute in the course of the training. He concluded by wishing all the participants a productive and insightful session.

The workshop which took place at women multipurpose center opposite Plateau Ridders, Jos, plateau State had participants from Nigeria Red Cross Society, the police, Civil Defense and Federal Road Safety among others.

The participants in the workshop were trained by Search and Rescue Department on how to use extrication equipment during emergency.

Some of the papers presented at the workshop included: Safety for Vehicular and Non-Vehicular users on Nigeria Roads by Federal Road Safety Commission and and Basic First Aid and Casualty Handling during Road Traffic Emergency by Nigeria Red Cross Society
