National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) held a field Visit/LLE on 2022 Flood disaster.
Recall the devastating 2022 flood disaster which claimed 665 lives, affected 4,476,867 persons and displaced 2,437,411 persons. There is therefore need to develop and strengthen the core element of emergency preparedness and response at the national, state, local government and community levels to help mitigate losses in the future.
The LLE of 2022 flood will go a long way in addressing the structures, systems, processes and resources for emergency preparedness and response; identifying the strengths, weaknesses, potential options for improvement and capacity building.
The World Bank Team lead Nkem Joseph Palmer and Alhaji Alhassan Nuhu the Consultant to the Global Bank, with the representatives of NEMA team Major James Eze the Zonal Director and Ngozi Echeazu the Zonal Coordinator facilitated the exercise.
The exercise which took place at State Emergency Management Agency’s office in Awka, Anambra State had in attendance the Executive Secretary ANSEMA Chief Paul Odenigbo and other senior Management staff of ANSEMA, Chairmen of Anambra East and West, Local Emergency Management Committees (LEMCs) and Community Based Organizations (CBOs) across the various LGAs that were worst hit by the 2022 Flood disaster in Anambra State.
Questionnaires were used to gather information from the participants which will equally serve as initial baseline for follow-up discussions.
Participants applauded the initiative of NEMA/World Bank in organizing the LLE.
