Flag Off/Distribution of Relief Items To Person’s Affected By Windstorm Disaster in Abia State

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Wednesday 2nd November, 2022 flagged-off the distribution of relief materials to the affected persons of windstorm in four (4) LGA’s of Abia State.

The Director-General of NEMA, Mustapha Habib Ahmed, while presenting the relief items to the State Government stated the Agency is re-enforcing the coping capacity and resilence of communities affected by disasters. He emphasized that communities vulnerable to natural disasters must embark on Disaster Risk Reduction initiative to curtail losses.

The DG, represented by Ag. Head of NEMA Owerri Operations Office, Mr. Nnaji Ifeanyi pointed out to the beneficiaries that relief materials provided for them is not to pay back all that were destroyed by the windstorm, but only to cushion the effect of the unfortunate incident, as some things are intangible and cannot be replaced.

The list of materials being presented includes food and non-food items.

In his response on behalf of Abia State Government, the Executive Secretary of Abia SEMA, Mr. Sunday Jackson appreciated the kind gesture of the Federal Government through NEMA for such an unwavering support to persons affected by windstorm disaster in the State.
