The staff of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Uyo Operations office, were at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Secretariat to engage with the corps members of the Community Development Service (CDS) in Akwa Ibom State. This visit is designed to revamp the Emergency Management Vanguards (EMVs) within the corps service and to serve as part of a broader initiative in enhancing the NYSC EMVs activities in disaster management and building their capacity as first responders at the community level.
During the visit, NEMA Uyo, Head of Operations commended the corps members for their dedication to community service, particularly in areas related to disaster risk reduction and emergency preparedness. The team emphasized the importance of the corps members’ roles in sensitizing communities about disaster risks, sustaining community development and implementing preventive measures. These activities are crucial in fostering community resilience of their host communities.
The NYSC official in charge of the EMVs CDS group, Mr Bareneka thanked NEMA officials for being a part of their program and look forward to having the capacity of the EMVs corps members being built/trained to carry out their roles and responsibilities.
