HANDOVER OF FEDERAL GOVERNMENT GRAINS FOR CROSS RIVER STATE

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) through its South South Zonal Directorate and Uyo Operations Office handed over 702 MT of maize (14,040 bags) and 84.6 MT of garri (3,384 bags) to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Bassey Otu represented by the Commissioner for Agriculture & Irrigation Development, Mr. Johnson Ebokpo and the DG Cross River State Emergency Management Agency (CRSEMA), Apostle (Hon) James Anam for direct distribution by a committee of stakeholders as specified in the distribution guidelines to the identified vulnerable persons across the 18 LGAs of Cross River State.

The Director General, NEMA, Zubaida Umar who was represented by the Director, NEMA South South Zone Mr. Walson Ibrakumo Brandon, appreciated the stakeholders for the seamless efforts in receiving the items and advised that the items should be given to the vulnerable and deserving individuals in Cross River State.

This initiative is part of the Federal Government’s efforts to alleviate food insecurity amongst the vulnerable population in Nigeria. The grains are sourced from the National Strategic Grains Reserve under the custody of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.

While thanking the Federal Government for this laudable initiative, the Commissioner Mr. Johnson Ebokpo promised to adhere to the distribution process for the benefit of all identified and deserving beneficiaries, adding that it will go a long way in alleviating the hunger situation in the State.

Stakeholders present at the handover were SEMA, DSS, Min. of Agriculture & Irrigation Development, Red Cross, Army and the Media. *19:06:24*
