On September 17, 2024, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Uyo Operations Office, in collaboration with the Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, AKSEMA, and other stakeholders, distributed relief materials to victims of a windstorm disaster in Ikot Otu community, Ikot Ekpene LGA, Akwa Ibom State. The relief included both food and non-food items.
The distribution was flagged off by the Deputy Governor, Sen. (Dr.) Akon Eyakenyi, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Grace Jim. NEMA’s Acting Head of Operations, Mrs. Mmandu Aisueni, conveyed the condolences of NEMA’s Director General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, and urged the community to be alert to flood risks, as predicted by NIMET. She also advised on the planting of resilient trees to mitigate future windstorm damage.
The community expressed gratitude for the support, with acknowledgments from representatives like Engr. Unwana Udomah and Hon. Uayime Thomas Akpan. The distribution was monitored by various stakeholders, including security agencies and community leaders, ensuring a successful and organized process.
