Following a windstorm that occured sporadically across different Local Government Areas of Zamfara State on the 3rd of June, 2024, NEMA alongside Zamfara State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Zamfara State Emergency Management Agency (ZEMA) carried out a joint assessment of the affected areas.
The windstorm affected communities in Tsafe, Maradun, Mafara LGAs amongst others and pulled down buildings. The assessment exercise was conducted with the heavy presence of security operatives due to the problem of insecurity.
Leader of the NEMA delegation that was in Zamfara State for downscaling of flood early warning, Director ICT, Sani Lokoja led the assessment exercise in the company of the Commissioner, Zamfara State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, ES of ZEMA and Head of Operations, NEMA, Sokoto Operations Office and other staff members of NEMA.
The traditional leader of Tsafe who praised the proactive response of NEMA for embarking on the assessment exercise just a day after the incident said he is in the process of sending a letter to NEMA to report the incident when the team came for the assessment. He then presented the letter to NEMA in his palace while commending the prompt response of the agency.
Some of the affected persons are displaced while some persons loss their lives in the windstorm.
