2023 Early Warning Flood Sensitization Programme commenced in flood prone LGAs of Anambra State *

Following the 2023 Seasonal Climate Prediction and Annual Flood Outlook by Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and Nigerian Hydrological Agency (NIHSA) which indicated that 10 LGAs of Anambra State are ranked high flood risk areas namely: Ihiala, Ogbaru, Anaocha, Idemili North, Ayamelum, Awka South, Anambra East, Anambra west, Onitsha North and Onitsha and 9 LGAs are ranked moderate flood risk area namely: Oyi, Orumba South, Njikoka, Nnewi North,Orumba North , Aguata, Idemili South, Awka North, Dunukofia, a joint team of Anambra State Emergency Management Agency (ANSEMA) led by Chief Paul Odenigbo and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Mr Kingsley Okolo commenced the 2023 early warning/flood sensitization program across the affected LGAs on Thursday 27th April 2023. Other stakeholders present at the event include: the International Organization of Migration (IOM), Anambra State Erosion and WaterShed Climate Change Agency (ANSEWCCA) and the Media (Channels Television and Anambra Broadcasting Service). Handbills and posters were equally used to inform the community members on the “dos and don’ts” of flood management.

DAY 1: The LGAs covered are: Anyamelum, Anambra East and West.

The meeting witnessed high turnout of community leaders including the Local Government Chairmen and Traditional Rulers .
