Assessment of Communal crisis in 3 Communities of Ngbo, Ohaukwu LGA of Ebonyi State

Following the directive from NEMA headquarters to conduct on the spot assessment of a communal clash between Ngbo in Ohaukwu LGA of Ebonyi state, a joint team of NEMA South East zonal office and Ebonyi SEMA visited the affected areas on Tuesday 18th July 2023 to ascertain the level of damages/needs and to make appropriate recommendations.

The communities affected by the unfortunate incident are:

  1. Umuogudu Akpu
  2. Ekwashi
  3. Ukwuagba.

The team findings revealed that the major cause was boundary/ land dispute between the above mentioned communities and Agila the neighboring communities in Igumale LGA of Benue State.

Several houses, farm lands, properties and livelihoods were completely destroyed. A total of 32 lives were lost, over 87 persons were injured and a total of 6,543 people were displaced across the Three (3) affected communities. The affected are expectant of Federal Government relief support to ameriolate the sufferings of the people
