Officers of NEMA Lagos Territorial Office LTO responded to an incident of PMS spillage at Ojota, Lagos on 18 July, 2024. The affected Tanker with license number KMC125 ZQ fell as it was about to ascend the bridge at Ojota, thereby spilling most of it content on the road and into nearby drainages. On arrival at the scene, responders immediately cordoned off the area and diverted traffic to prevent fire outbreak.
Officers of the Federal and State fire sprayed tender foam continuously on the spilled content to blanket it, thus preventing an explosion. An alert was sent to communities nearby to warn against the use of fire igniting materials. The blanketing process continued until an empty tanker arrived and the remaining content was transloaded into it. The affected tanker was lifted and placed on a lowbed after the content was discharged; while all these was going on, firemen was still releasing tender foam to blanket the Tanker and also to flush away the remaining PMS spill on the roadside.
At the end, after proper check was done and the area declared safe for motorist, the affected lane was open to traffic at 7:30pm and the Tanker taken to LASEMA office. The operation came to an end at 7:45pm. There was no record of injury.
