NEMA Sensitizes Stakeholders on Fuel Tanker Accidents and Fire in FCT

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Abuja Operations Office, organized a one-day sensitization programme focused on the growing threat of tanker accidents and fire incidents in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The initiative was designed to enhance public awareness and promote preventive strategies to curb the frequency and impact of such disasters.The event brought together key stakeholders including first responders, security agencies, and transport unions such as NUPENG Tanker Drivers Association, NURTW, FEMA, FRSC, FCT Fire Service, NDLEA, NRCS, VIO, NSCDC, and the Nigeria Police Force. These participants used the platform to strengthen collaboration and share insights on safety enforcement and emergency response.In his remarks, Mr. Zakari Abubakar, Head of NEMA Abuja Operations Office, highlighted the need for proactive safety practices, particularly among fuel tanker drivers. He stressed the value of continuous public education in minimizing fire-related emergencies.The programme featured lectures and practical sessions by the FCT Fire Service and Nigerian Red Cross Society, which focused on safety regulations, emergency preparedness, and effective response coordination.NEMA reaffirmed its commitment to fostering inter-agency coordination and community awareness as part of its broader efforts in disaster risk reduction and emergency management.
