NEMA Joins Stakeholders in Nationwide Awareness Campaign Against Human Trafficking

As part of activities marking the 2025 World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Enugu Operations Office, actively participated in a public awareness campaign organized to highlight the threats posed by human trafficking, particularly to vulnerable populations. The sensitization event, held on Wednesday, 30th July 2025, was spearheaded by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Enugu Zonal Office, in partnership with the Youth Child Support Initiative (YCSI).

Themed *“Human Trafficking Is an Organised Crime: End Exploitation,”* the campaign focused on strengthening public consciousness around the growing menace of human trafficking and mobilizing collective action to curb the exploitation of victims, especially women and children.

The event featured a walk-through rally that kicked off at Onu Asata Roundabout and passed through key landmarks including the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium and Okpara Square, before culminating at the NAPTIP Office within the Enugu State Ministry of Transport. Participants engaged passersby, shared information, and distributed flyers and banners conveying messages that condemned trafficking and urged public vigilance.

The campaign drew wide participation from federal and state government institutions, civil society groups, traditional leaders, students, and other community actors. NEMA’s involvement reinforced its commitment to protecting vulnerable populations and working with stakeholders to mitigate the humanitarian consequences of trafficking, especially during emergencies when displaced persons are at heightened risk of exploitation.
