NEMA Coordinates Rescue at Building Collapse Scene in Piyakasa, Abuja

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Abuja Operations Office (AOO) on Monday, 15th September 2025, coordinated a search and rescue operation following the collapse of a building embankment at Angel Martins Estate, Piyakasa, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

NEMA AOO received a distress call at about 11:00 a.m. and immediately activated critical stakeholders, including the FCT Fire Service, which assumed lead responsibility at the incident command. NEMA’s Search and Rescue team, led by the Head of Operations, Mr. Zakari Abubakar, was deployed to the scene to support emergency response efforts.

The inter-agency operation, marked by seamless collaboration, came to a close at about 12:15 p.m. One person with minor injuries was rescued during the exercise and promptly attended to.

Responders included the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory Fire Service, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and FCT Development Control Department.
