A Flood Disaster Management stakeholders workshop organised by the Nigerian Environmental Society (Calabar Chapter) in collaboration with the Cross River State SEMA (CRSEMA) was held at the ASUU Conference Hall, University of Calabar. The focus of the workshop was on enhancing control and response strategies in flood prone areas in the state.
The keynote speakers were Prof. Prince C. Mmom (fnes) Hon. Commissioner of Education Rivers State, Prof. Ani Nkang (fnes) Former Vice Chancellor Arthur Jarvis University Akpabuyo, Cross River State, and Apostle (Hon.) James O. Anam Director General of CRSEMA. The Ag. Head of Operations, NEMA Uyo Operations Office Aisueni Mmandu (Mrs) gave a goodwill message which highlighted key aspects in flood disaster management such as risk assessment, early warning systems, community engagement, infrastructure resilience, and inter-agency coordination.
In all, the participants discussions centered around leveraging on technology, enhancing effective communication, and fostering virile partnerships for effective flood mitigation and response efforts across Cross River State.
