NEMA DISTRIBUTES RELIEF ITEMS TO PERSONS AFFECTED BY FLOOD/EROSION/WINDSTORM DISASTER IN OGUI EKE COMMUNITY, ENUGU STATE

The National Emergency Management Agency has distributed relief items to support households affected by flood, erosion and windstorm disaster in Enugu State.

The relief items was distributed by NEMA Enugu Operations Office in collaboration with the Enugu State Emergency Management Agency (ENSEMA) for the affected population in Ogui-Eke Community in Udi LGA.

It would be recalled that flood, erosion and windstorm disaster affected Ogui-Eke earlier this year resulting to destruction of property and farmlands. Sequel to this, the Enugu Operations Office in collaboration with SEMA Enugu State carried out impact assessment of the affected areas to determine the extent of damage caused and needs of the affected population.

Flagging off the distribution of the relief items at Ogui-Eke on Friday 22nd August 2025, the NEMA Head Enugu Operations Office, Mrs Ngozi Echeazu, on behalf of the federal government empathized with the affected persons over the unfortunate incident. She said that the approved relief items by the Director-General NEMA Mrs Zubaida Umar is to cushion the effect of sufferings of the affected population and not a replacement of their loss. Mrs Echeazu urged the community to always clear their water ways and ensure that houses are not constructed on water channels.

In his response, the Chairman Ogui-Eke community, Ichie Nwanamahi Kennedy expressed gratitude to the Federal Government/NEMA for the timely relief intervention. He assured that the community will embark on drainage desilting and will work with the Udi LGA Urban Planning Department to ensure that buildings are not constructed on waterways and those already constructed will be demolished.

The beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the federal government/NEMA for the provision of relief support and equitable distribution of the relief items.

Major Highlights were the direct distribution of relief materials to recipients.

Items distributed include: Rice, Garri, Spaghetti, Vegetable oil, Seasoning cubes, Tomato paste, and Iodized salt.
