The assorted food commodities given to Nigerians by the federal government to cushion the effect of high cost of food items in the country was officially handed over to the Abia State Government on 3rd May 2024 at Umuahia.
The Director General of NEMA Zubaida Umar on her speech read by the Director Relief and Rehabilitation, Adamu Abdullahi Usur appreciated the government of Presidet Bola Ahmed Tinubu for releasing these foods from the National Strategic Reserve to ameliorate the sufferings of people due to high cost of food in the country. She appealed to the stakeholders involved in the food distribution to ensure that the modalities for distribution are adhered to the letters.
The Abia State Government represented by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba (PhD) welcomed NEMA team and thanked the government of Presidet Bola Tinubu for the worthwhile initiative. He assured that the items will be judiciously distributed irrespective of religious, political or social affiliations. He immediately asked the Chairman State Operating Committee on Grain Intervention in the state, Dr. Eric Achi Egwuibe to oversee the the distribution exercise.
