As part of the ongoing Assisted Voluntary Return initiative supported by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in collaboration with the Federal Government of Nigeria, the Lagos Operations Office of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), in conjunction with the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), successfully received a total of 148 Nigerian returnees from Chad on September 9th, 2025, at approximately 12:25 hours.
The returnees arrived safely at the Cargo Terminal of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, aboard an ASKY Airlines flight with Registration Number ET-BAT. The group comprised the following categories:
• 93 Adults
• 49 Children
• 6 Infants
Upon arrival, officials from the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) promptly conducted biometric registration and proper documentation for all the returnees to ensure accurate records and smooth reintegration into the country.
In line with the Federal Government’s commitment to the safe, dignified, and humane return of its citizens, the returnees were provided with essential services and immediate humanitarian assistance, including:
• Provision of food and potable water to address immediate nutritional needs
• Medical care and ambulance services to cater for any health-related concerns
• Luggage handling and logistics support to ease their transit process
• General coordination to facilitate a seamless and orderly reception exercise
The collaborative efforts of NEMA, IOM, NCFRMI, and other key stakeholders ensured that the entire reception process was well-organized, efficient, and centered on the dignity and welfare of all returnees.
