The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) South East Zone has trained and inaugurated corps members as emergency management vanguards in the zone. The training program which span between Wednesday 12th to Saturday 15th November, 2014 ran concurrently in the three States of Anambra, Ebonyi and Enugu aimed at using NYSC Corps Members as disaster vanguards and for proactive disaster management nation-wide.
The NEMA/NYSC Emergency Management Vanguards (EMV) program which was designed to offer youth corps members the opportunity to provide their services in an organized, prompt and responsive ways to disaster incidents during their one year service to their fatherland, it was also to inculcate a broad disaster management consciousness, awareness and preventive culture among them too.
The corps members were trained on overview of NEMA and Disaster Management, Disaster Risk Management and role of NEMA/NYSC Emergency Management Vanguard, basic first aid technique during emergency, prevalent disasters in the South East Zone and how to handle domestic fire incidents at home or workplace
