The Northwest zonal Office in line with the Agency’s mandate of Coordinating Disater Management in Nigeria has organized a one day stakeholder’s consultative meeting on flood preparedness, prevention, mitigation and response.
The Director General Mustapha Habib represented by the Zonal Coordinator Abbani Imam Garki gave an opening address where He said the aim of the meeting is to provide opportunity for disaster management stakeholders to review previous experiences, identify gaps to improve on flood response in the zone.
The meeting provided a platform for stakeholders to brainstorm on preparedness and mitigation strategies based on NIMET and NIHSA SCP and AFO respectively.
In attendance were Nigerian Air Force (DRU), Federal Fire Service, Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA) NIMET and Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet).Others are officials of state Ministry of Agriculture, state Ministry of Environment state Ministry of Health, Aid Foundation, Save the Children, IOM, Refugee Commission,SAESI, National Association of People with Disability, KEPA, the media and other relevant stakeholders.
The meeting came to an end with the formal presentation of the Seasonal Climate Prediction document by NIMET to the Zonal Coordinator for onward distribution amongst Stakeholders.
