The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) South-West Zonal Directorate has paid a familiarisation visit to the Oyo State Police Command as part of efforts to deepen inter-agency collaboration in disaster management.
The NEMA delegation, led by the Zonal Director, Mr. Akiode Saheed, alongside principal officers from the Directorate and Ibadan Operations Office, was received by the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Femi Haruna, psc, and senior officers of the Command at the Police Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, on Tuesday, 16th September 2025.
Speaking during the visit, Mr. Saheed conveyed the compliments of the Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, the Management, and staff of the Agency to the Commissioner of Police, while wishing him a successful tenure. He highlighted that the visit was to update the Command on NEMA’s strategic plans under its current leadership and to reinforce long-standing institutional collaboration between the two agencies.
Mr. Saheed acknowledged the “age-long symbiotic relationship” between NEMA and the Nigeria Police Force, commending the police for their critical role in protecting lives and property during emergencies. He further appealed for the establishment of a Disaster Management Unit within the Police Command, similar to the Disaster Response Unit (DRU) of the Nigerian military. The Commissioner of Police graciously approved the request.
In his response, CP Haruna expressed appreciation for the visit and assured the NEMA team of the Command’s unwavering commitment to strengthening synergy and collaboration with the Agency.
The visit to the Nigeria Police Command is an affirmation of NEMA’s commitment to expanding the frontiers of disaster management in Nigeria through stronger partnerships with security and emergency stakeholders.
