The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) provides an update on the flash floods that swept through communities in Yola North and Yola South LGAs earlier today following hours of heavy rainfall.
Water levels have begun to recede in some locations while continuing to rise in others, forcing more residents to evacuate their homes. The floods have so far affected significant number of houses, with about 56 completely damaged. Two persons sustained injuries, while one male resident remains missing.
Displacements continue, as dozens of families have fled their homes. Some are taking refuge with relatives and host communities, while others are being accommodated at the temporary flood resettlement camp in Girei LGA provided by the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA).
NEMA, working closely with ADSEMA, the Federal and State Fire Services, the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS), and local volunteers, has intensified search and rescue efforts in Jambutu, Doubeli, Rumde, Demsawo, Nasarawo, Limawa, Wuro Jabbe, Damilu, and other affected areas. Stranded residents have been evacuated to safer grounds, and first aid has been administered where necessary.
Temporary shelters are being arranged in schools, while relief support is being mobilized for the displaced.
Movement remains restricted in several submerged areas, raising concern over access to critical infrastructure. Health officials have also warned of the risk of waterborne diseases due to stagnant water and poor sanitation conditions.
