Following fire incidents that razed down many houses and displaced residents of two communities in Kiyawa Local Government Area of Jigawa State, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has delivered relief items approved to provide succour to the affected persons.
Director General NEMA Mustapha Habib Ahmed who presented the items at one of the affected communities, Malamawa said the relief support was delivered under instructions from President Muhammadu Buhari and the Honorable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development Sadiya Umar Farouq.
He commiserated with the affected persons and said the Federal Government was concerned about their plights in approving the relief supports for them.
He said “the Deputy Governor of Jigawa State Alhaji Umar Namadi called to inform me of this sad incident and today we are here to deliver relief items approved by the President with support of the Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development to provide succour to the affected persons.”
He explained that the items delivered were based on preliminary assessment conducted by NEMA Kano Territory Office in collaboration with Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency.
He said “I have inspected the destruction caused by the unfortunate inferno and surprised by the burnt of the homes and livelihoods of the people in almost all of the communities.” Therefore, he assured that there may be further supports in terms of building materials to enable them rebuild their homes.
The NEMA DG said the items delivered were meant to complement the response of the Jigawa State Government to the disaster.
Responding, the Governor of Jigawa State Alhaji Muhammad Badaru who was represented by the Deputy Governor Alhaji Umar Namadi appreciated the Federal Government through NEMA for the timely intervention of relief support to the fire victims. He specifically thanked President Muhammadu Buhari, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs Disaster Management and Social Development Sadiya Umar Farouq and DG NEMA Mustapha Habib Ahmed for their commitments to disaster management and timely provision of humanitarian supports.
He also thanked the President Elect Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu for sending financial donation which was also delivered at the occasion.
It will recall that a midday fire on Sunday 5th March 2023 razed down many homes in Malamawa and Karangiya communities of Kiyawa Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The items delivered were food and non-food materials.
