In response to the 2025 seasonal rainfall predictions by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA), the Cross River State Government has activated a multi-agency committee to conduct a needs assessment across flood-affected Local Government Areas (LGAs) within the state.
The joint assessment committee is led by the Director General of the Cross River State Emergency Management Agency (CRSEMA), Mr. Antigha Gill, and includes key stakeholders from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Nigerian Red Cross Society, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), local government officials, and trained volunteers.
The committee, which has been divided into five teams, commenced field operations today and is expected to cover 12 LGAs as follows:
1. Obudu, Ogoja, and Yala
2. Etung, Obubra, and Ikom
3. Abi and Biase
4. Odukpani and Calabar Municipality
5. Calabar South and Akpabuyo
This exercise aims to determine the scale of impact, identify the most vulnerable communities, and provide data to inform coordinated relief interventions.
