Flood: Crisis Communication Centre lauds NEMA

A civil society organization, Centre for Crisis Communication led by Major General Chris Olukolade (rtd) Wednesday paid a courtesy call on the Director General National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Mrs Zubaida Umar at headquarters of the Agency in Abuja.

Speaking on the visit, General Olukolade, a former Director of Defense Information commended the giant strides by NEMA in the efficient coordination of disaster management in Nigeria, especially the on-going flood interventions.

He said the visit was aimed at identifying with the critical mandates of NEMA and the achievements made so far in the delivery of its roles.

He expressed commitment of the Centre to collaborate with the Agency in the areas of information management on disaster early warning and public sensitization.

Responding, the Director General NEMA Mrs Zubaida Umar said the Agency was doing its best for timely response to disasters through proactive approach. She underscored the significant roles of stakeholders and assured of NEMA’s commitment to continuously deliver on its mandates in the coordination of resources towards upgrading disaster management in the country.

The DG NEMA also gave some highlight of the present efforts by the Agency in flood coordination and intervention in the country. She said responses were already on-going in states that have been impacted by flooding. Furthermore, she added that the Agency has already activated and placed stakeholders on alert, deployed resources including technical personnel and equipment to locations identified to be at risk of also being flooded.
