Flash Floods and Recovery Efforts Kaduna state

On July 15, 2024, a severe rainstorm resulted in flash floods across various locations within the Kaduna metropolis, including Asikolaye, Kaduna Millennium City, Ahmadu Bello Way among others. The rain commenced at approximately 1:00 PM and ceased around 6:00 PM, leading to significant disruptions and the tragic loss of lives.

At about 11:30pm, the Zonal Office received a report that in Rigachikun, Igabi Local Government Area, two individuals, identified as Alamin Ibrahim (25) and Walid Sarki Rufai (20), fell into a water channel and were reported missing following the storm. A joint emergency response team, comprising personnel from NEMA, SEMA, and the Nigerian Red Cross, was deployed to the scene to conduct search and recovery operations.

The emergency response team arrived at the incident location at approximately 6:30 AM on July 16, 2024. Unfortunately, prior to their arrival, community members located the bodies of the missing individuals. One body was discovered around 5:00 AM, followed by the second at 6:00 AM.

In the aftermath of this tragedy, the Response Team visited the families of the deceased to extend condolences and offer support during this difficult time.

The Northwest Zonal Office expresses its deepest sympathies to the families affected by this tragic incident and commends the swift actions of community members and the Emergency Response Teams involved in the recovery efforts.
