The NEMA Port Harcourt Operations Office, led by Mr. Omeje Ifeanyi, responded swiftly to a tanker accident involving a load of AGO. The tanker, travelling from Koko in Delta State to Port Harcourt, suffered a tyre blowout, causing it to overturn and spill its contents.
On arrival, the team cordoned off the scene to prevent unauthorized access and deter attempts to scoop the spilled product. Security personnel were deployed to maintain order despite efforts by some individuals to siphon the fuel.
NEMA coordinated with the Fire Service and other stakeholders, secured the area, offered professional advisory support, and led the multi‑agency response. The team also assisted with traffic control and engaged Monier Construction Company to provide a crane for recovery.
To ensure safety and restore traffic flow, the Federal Road Safety Corps deployed a recovery van to right the overturned tanker after the AGO had been transferred to another tanker and handed over to the police.
The response was supported by the Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Police Force, Federal Fire Service, State Fire Service, NUPENG, and the DPR.
The operation was successfully concluded with no casualties recorded.
