The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Sokoto Operations Office, in collaboration with the Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), has carried out an on-the-spot assessment of the recent flood disaster in Rabah Local Government Area.
The flood, triggered by a series of heavy downpours, caused severe damage to infrastructure and livelihoods. The major road linking Rabah to communities such as Ghandi, Mai Kujera, Tsamiya, and others was completely washed away, cutting off access for residents.
Sadly, the disaster claimed the lives of two persons a 51-year-old adult and a child, while two other children sustained injuries. In addition, vast farmlands were submerged, raising concerns over food security and livelihood losses in the affected areas.
Displaced families are currently taking refuge at Rabah Model Primary School and Rabah Stadium, while others have sought shelter with relatives and neighbors.
