The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar today inaugurated the Agency’s National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) to enhance the efficient management of this year’s flood and related disaster responses.

Speaking during the inauguration of the Centre’s staff, Mrs. Zubaida Umar emphasized that the NEOC will facilitate seamless coordination between NEMA’s strategic headquarters and sub-national entities, including relevant stakeholders. The Centre, she noted, will play a critical role in ensuring accurate flood data management and effective resource deployment nationwide.

The Director General NEMA who was represented by the Director of Planning, Research and Forecasting, Dr. Onimode Abdullahi Bandele, urged NEOC personnel to demonstrate diligence and professionalism in the discharge of their responsibilities. She specifically tasked them with the development and continuous updating of a reliable flood dashboard to support informed decision-making.

The National Emergency Operations Centre serves as a multi-stakeholder platform for real-time monitoring of flood situations, data tracking, information dissemination, and coordination of resource mobilization and deployment in response to the 2025 flood season across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The establishment and inauguration of the NEOC form part of NEMA’s proactive and strategic efforts to mitigate the impact of anticipated flooding in 2025. The Centre commenced full operations immediately following the inauguration.
