

On 3rd May 2024, NEMA Edo Operations Office received an emergency call from the Delta State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) regarding a tanker fire disaster in Okpe Local Government Area, Delta State.
A team from NEMA, Delta SEMA, Delta State Fire Service, conducted an on the spot assessment to determine the extent of damage caused by the tanker inferno.
The fire incident was caused by a tanker accident, which resulted in the spillage of its highly flammable contents. The Delta State Fire Service in Warri swiftly responded to contain the spread of the inferno.
The fire affected several houses, shops, a hospital, a church, and many vehicles burnt in the vicinity, leading to significant property damage. Unfortunately, eight fatalities were recorded in the incident, and many were injured.
