





In a proactive effort to address the recurring incidents of tanker fires, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibadan Operations Office (IBOO), organized a one-day awareness and sensitization campaign on tanker accidents and fire outbreaks in Ibafo, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.The campaign was designed to educate communities that are vulnerable to tanker fire incidents and to help them effectively manage and mitigate such emergencies.During the event, the Governor of Ogun State, represented by the Director of Ogun State SEMA, Mr. Durojaiye Oluwadare, emphasized the importance of disaster preparedness and lauded NEMA for the timely and impactful initiative.The Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, represented by the Head of IBOO, Mr. Kadiri Olanrewaju, highlighted the need for a collaborative, multi-agency response to tackle the frequent and often fatal tanker fire accidents. She underscored the value of awareness campaigns in preventing fatalities and cautioned the public against the dangerous practice of fuel scooping at accident scenes.A technical session during the event featured detailed presentations by Engr. Adebambo Adesanya, Deputy Director of the Ogun State Fire Service, and Superintendent Kazeem Adeyemi of the FRSC, Ogun State. They discussed the root causes of tanker fire accidents and shared practical measures for prevention and emergency response. Following the session, participants took to the streets to further sensitize the public and commercial drivers on safety strategies related to tanker accidents and fire hazards.The campaign drew participation from representatives of NEMA, SEMA, the Federal and State Fire Services, FRSC, Environmental Health Officers, community leaders, and members of the media.
