Following the emergency call from SEMA Anambra State on the chemical explosion/ fire incident at Ogbo Ogwu market Onitsha, Anambra state, a joint team from NEMA South East Zonal office and Anambra SEMA, Anambra state carried out a joint assessment of the incident to ascertain the level of the damage and make necessary recommendations.
The incident which occurred at about 12:30pm on Tuesday 8th November, 2022 at the Ogbo Ogwu Market, Onitsha was as a result of chemical explosion.
It was actually a terrible situation but the fire has been brought under control.
About 80 shops were affected not really because of the fire outbreak but because of the vibration of the explosions which caused the collapse of some Market buildings.
There were Casualties as a result of the incident. 12 people sustained injuries and 4 people were found dead.
The Deputy Governor of Anambra State and some Commissioners in the State were at the scene with the joint team of NEMA and ANSEMA to sympathize with the affected persons and the Market leaders.
