A severe windstorm struck the Odukpani communities in Calabar Municipality/Odukpani Federal Constituency, Cross River State, causing significant destruction. The disaster, first reported on February 23, 2024, and recurring on April 14, 2024, led to an assessment visit by officials from NEMA’s Uyo Operations Office and Cross River State SEMA. Over 921 people were affected, with 608 individuals displaced due to damages to residential structures, worship centers, schools, factories, and agricultural areas. The local community, already beyond their capacity to cope, received support from national and state agencies and requested further assistance to recover from the impacts of the windstorm.
