NEMA CONDUCT ASSESSMENT OF FIRE INCIDENT IN ILELA LGA SOKOTO STATE

A joint assessment team including NEMA, Somoto Operations Office, Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and Ilela Local Government Council conducted an assessment of 2 fire incidences that affected 8 communities of Ilela LGA of Sokoto State.

The communities affected include Ilela ward, Tozai, Darna-Sabon gari, Demba, Araba, Kalmalo, Darna-tsohuwa and Gatti.

The incidents which affected a total of over one thousand persons was caused by a gas explosion in a refiling gas shop in Ilela town, while the second fire incident was intentionally ignited by Armed bandits in the other 7 communities affected.

Facilities and structures destroyed include, several shops that were fully parked with provisions and other items, houses, household items, motorcycles, cars and food stuffs amongst others.

The ES, SEMA, Sokoto State, Bashir Mohammed and Acting Chairman Ilela Local Government Council, Sahabi Isah Wakili were part of the assessment team. Victims, particularly those affected by the fire caused by Armed Bandits have since taken refuge with friends and relatives in Ilela town.
