World Bank Disaster Risk Management Team visited the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) headquarters in Abuja

The World Bank Disaster Risk Management Team visited the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday and met with Director General Mrs. Zubaida Umar.

The team was led by the World Bank’s Practice Manager Urban Development Resilience and Land Global Practice for West and Central Africa Dr. Madhu Raghunath. During meeting, the team highlighted findings from a recent joint Lessons Learned Exercise (LLE) conducted with NEMA and other stakeholders, including State Emergency Management Agencies (SEMAs).

Dr. Raghunath said the visit was also aimed at exploring further areas of collaboration with NEMA to enhance Nigeria’s disaster risk management, particularly through technical assistance.

Responding, the Director General NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar expressed appreciation for the World Bank’s commitment and reiterated NEMA’s openness to partnerships that can improve disaster risk management and community resilience.

The Director General was joined in receiving the World Bank team by Dr. Onmode Abdullahi Bandele (Director of Planning Research and Forecasting), Alhaji Abdullahi Adamu Usur (Director of Relief and Rehabilitation), Mr. Idris Abubakar Mohammed (Director of Disaster Risk Reduction), and Hajiya Rakiya Bello Umar (Special Assistant to the Director General).
